What is IGCSE?
IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is a Cambridge and Edexcel pre-16 qualification used worldwide. Most international schools in Türkiye use IGCSE as the foundation before A-Level or IB.
How many IGCSEs should I take?
7-10 subjects is the usual range. A typical core includes Mathematics, English and at least two sciences. IGCSE results (especially Math + English) are an additional reference point in university admissions.
Do IGCSE grades affect A-Level admission?
Yes. Many international schools require minimum A/B grades at IGCSE for entry to A-Level. In university applications, schools such as Cambridge specifically look at IGCSE Mathematics and English grades.
What is the difference between Core and Extended?
Some IGCSE subjects (Mathematics, ESL, Sciences) are offered at Core and Extended levels. Core caps at C/4; Extended goes up to A*/9. Students aiming for A-Level or IB should sit the Extended tier.
What is the difference between 9-1 and A*-G grading?
Cambridge International IGCSE uses A*-G in some subjects and 9-1 in others. 9 is the highest, 1 the lowest. Reformed UK GCSE uses 9-1, while traditional IGCSE keeps A*-G. Universities recognise both.
